EDC Creations Endorsements
Since 2000, EDC Creations has partnered with
community leaders, business owners, book clubs, publishers, book stores and
authors to bring readers the best representation of quality literature. Here are
just a few comments on our service to the community and the quality of our work.
The most important moment in EDC Creations history was our Intimate
Conversations Interview with Dr. Maya Angelou, which we have shared below.
|
Dr. Maya Angelou-September 11, 2008 interview,
Give the Gift of Knowledge Program
Ella Curry had the honor of
interviewing Dr. Maya Angelou as EDC
Creations kicked off the historic
2009 Give the Gift of Knowledge Program. This was the highlight of Ella
Curry's professional career. So much so, she could barely speak as she
introduced Dr. Angelou. The two of them discussed the release of Dr. Angelou's
new book,
Letter to My Daughter and some of the memories shared in the book. They even
compared President Barack Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Maya Angelou is hailed as one of the great voices of contemporary literature and
as a remarkable Renaissance woman. Being a poet, educator, historian,
best-selling author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer and
director, Dr. Angelou continues to
travel the world making appearances, spreading her legendary wisdom. A
mesmerizing vision of grace, swaying and stirring when she moves, Dr. Angelou
captivates her audiences lyrically with vigor, fire and perception.
Here is just an
excerpt from the legendary interview for Black Authors Network Radio:
EC: Dr. Maya Angelou, we are launching the
Give the Gift of Knowledge Campaign at EDC Creations. That's where we
are trying to encourage parents to not so much buy those expensive toys out
there and to give a book and to share our history and our knowledge with the
children. In your book
Letter to My Daughter, what kind of wisdom or advice do you share on
parenting and with mothers?
Dr. A: Well, I don't know where in that book, I hope on every other page
but being a parent is having such incredible power and just...you can crush a
person, you can crush his spirit, you can absolutely cripple her childhood, you
can do it. Or on the other hand, if you just take time and realize that you are
the most important person in that person's life. And soften your voice a little
when you talk to him. Be a little kinder when you talk to her. See, they don't
know–smaller people. Children don't know that life is kicking you in the behind.
They don't understand that. And they don't understand that that's why you may be
kicking them or ignoring them or even abandoning them. They don't know that.
They simply know that you're everything.
EC: Yes.
Dr. A: And so to be a little kinder or a lot kinder for that matter to
the children– to your children and to other people's children. And take the time
to talk to them, don't ignore them–they have minds. And they need someone to
say, "Good morning, how are ya...Looking nice over there." They need that. What
I'd like to say is...I'd like to ask that all of us have a little more patience
and be kinder to the children.
EC:
A Pledge to Rescue Our Youth is my favorite displays of your passion for
society, what inspired you to create that powerful message that empowers our
community?
Dr. A: Well... actually, Susan Taylor. Ms Taylor, the editor and chief of
Essence magazine, called me one day and asked, "Ms. Maya, please, do we have
anything we can say to the youth? I want to put it online. I gonna put it out in
the New Orleans at the Essence Jazz Festival." And I just wanted to say
something. So I said I'd try.
And I
as usual prayed first and began to work on that pledge. And it is, I am
happy to say, Target Company took it and put in almost every newspaper in the
country and put it in their stores so that the customers could have copies of
it. It's a blessing, that people in church, in fact in two churches I know, it
was in the programs. And sometimes I wish they didn't just put in and then take
it out. I wish they would just leave it in the programs. Anyway, it's there.
EC: Thank you so much for sharing that with us. It was an honor to have
you with the Black Authors Network today, discussing your book
Letter to My Daughter.
Dr. A: Thank you very much and please continue what you're doing. God
bless your heart. Thank you.
Written version of the complete interview with Dr. Maya Angelou and Ella
Curry of EDC Creations.

Debra
Owsley Business Owner, Simply Said Reading Accessories
I met Ella years ago now though My Space! She was about to put on her first
online event and I offered to get some of my authors/clients to join in and
participate. I made a few calls and called in some favors, and her very first
online event was a huge success.
My signature book
thongs were featured as the prizes sent to readers, during the book fair.
At the time we met I was posting “Let’s Build a Network within a Network”, that
was a vision I had, because of all of us were networking and trying to build up
resources and connections, and I saw the possibilities that could happen.
Fortunately for me, and many many others over the last year, Ella had the same
vision.
Not only were we on the same page, But she has skills, that my initial vision
and hopes, far superseded my wildest dreams. Her vast knowledge of the book
industry, internet savvy, and technical skills as well of her very hands on work
experience, blew my mind.
I truly count that day as a huge blessing that came from a simple wish for the
necessary to occur.
February 2008, Ella put on an unprecedented month long
Black History Month
Event
on Blogtalk Radio and again she blew my expectations out of the water with her
ability to accomplish such a monumental undertaking.
Black Authors Network on Blogtalk has grown right along with Ella and she has some of the most
awesome guests on her show including Dr. Maya Angelou. The show has over 70,000
listeners and get huge downloads. She has a wide range of speakers, authors, and
community service professionals there to discuss any topic. I cannot think of
one subject that was not discussed on her show this year, and I have missed very
few shows. I laugh because a year ago, Ella hated her accent so much. I told her
then that it was part of her charm and so have many others this year. That
accent and the name Ella Curry, and EDC-Creations, has become a Brand that is
now recognized all over the world.
Her new
EDC Creations' Black Pearls Magazine is her newest baby and is pulling in even more fans, recognition and
nods from a lot of industry professionals.
EDC-Creations is well organized, focused, and truly a force to be reckoned with.
EDC has grown in leaps in bounds in such a short time due to Ella’s
professionalism, tireless work ethic, and her always striving for more. Her
incredible ability to get things done is phenomenal.
I have nothing but a huge amount of respect for Ella and all of the FANTASTIC
Achievements she has made, I can hardly wait to see what she does next! But I’ll
be right there to find out!!
Ella Curry has been my biggest cheerleader as well as becoming a very close
friend and mentor. She has featured my custom made book marks
as her gifts for celebrity guests and book clubs, as a way of supporting my
business and to help me promote it.
Most Sincerely,
Debra Owsley

Bestselling Author and Speaker S. Renee Bess-BAN My Book
is Out Promotion
My name is S. Renee Bess and I am the author of
three books: “Leave of Absence” (Borders Personal Publishing,), “Breaking Jaie”
(Regal Crest Enterprises,) and “RE:Building Sasha” (Regal Crest Publishing.)
Writing is my second career, one that I began after many years of teaching in
the Philadelphia Public School District. While I felt secure about my teaching
skills, I discovered that writing fiction, searching for a publisher, and then
promoting my work represented a steep learning curve. The world of writers and
publishers was a new one for me. Fortunately, I’ve found that world to be
populated by warm and helpful people, like Ella Curry of EDC Creations.
Ella is a dynamo who automatically seems to
befriend and support writers and publishers alike. Despite my low/new public
profile, Ella invited me to participate on a panel of authors
for one of her
online radio programs. Prior to that program, she telephoned me to share
information about her goals, the panel, and the issues she anticipated
discussing with us. She made sure I was fully prepared.
After the program aired,
I received such positive feedback from friends and readers who had listened. A
few months later, Ella invited me to do a
one-on-one interview on the radio
and
also for her
online literary magazine. She has publicized the publication of my
latest novel, “RE:Building Sasha,” and she remains one of the most supportive
persons I’ve met since I’ve become a writer.
Ella is passionate about writing. She does
everything she can to promote writers and to encourage readers to seek out our
work. Increasingly, she is an important advocate for authors, publishers and
readers of popular literature. Her voice is a vital one, and her influence grows
daily. I can only hope she continues to expand her business and to successfully
reach out to all of us.
S. Renee Bess is a
former World Language teacher. She is the author of three lesbian romance
novels: "Leave of Absence, Borders Personal Publishing," "Breaking Jaie, Regal
Crest Enteprises," and "RE:Building Sasha, Regal Crest Enterprises."

EDC Creations' 2008 Debut Author Award of Excellence
Nanette Buchanan
As a new self published author I have found that the literary road has
many pit stops that must be made to introduce your work and create a buzz in
this rapidly moving industry. One of my stops brought me to Maryland where I was
introduced to Ms. Ella Curry, CEO of EDC Creations. I had no idea how this woman
and her phenomenal company would impact my life and my goals as a writer. Not
understanding the necessity of a Publicist or the work that was needed after
presenting my book to the public, Ms. Curry treated me with a personal touch,
gave me encouragement and promised to walk with me on my chosen path.
I immediately became a client, eager to learn and grateful for a package that
would fit my novice level of literary intelligence. EDC creations takes one step
by step through what one needs to become an author with a buzz. The e-blasts,
Black Authors Network (BAN), literary events, EDC Creations Blog Talk Radio and
various sites for blog posts expose an author to thousands of listeners and
readers. The opportunities are endless and with Ms. Curry at the helm of your
literary vessel your travel is worldwide. I researched and questioned other
authors and found very few who hadn’t worked with Ella (as she is affectionately
known) on some level of their work.
I had no idea that with one interview on BAN my sales would increase and more
people would recognize me as an inspiring author. Though there are obstacles
faced when one self publishes Ella has been there with her words of wisdom and
more so a promotion or venue that would uplift my spirit and put my work in
front of the literary audience. As in all business one must stand behind their
products and authors are no different. EDC Creations stands behind its clients
giving them a platform for presentation and a continuum of resources to prevent
failure.
BAN not only gives the authors a forum but with its panel discussions that
include; both traditional and self publisher; distributors; book stores owners;
book club members; reviewers; readings from all genres; podcasts and interviews;
and so much more. As a novice EDC Creations is a blessing and as EDC Creations
expands throughout the literary world, I realize as a client, author, and a self
publisher I too shall grow.

Karibu Books Indie Pen Author Darrell A. Cador
For the past 2 years I've had the distinct pleasure of working with Ella Curry,
initially in her position of Asst. Buyer for the vastly popular Karibu Books
book store chain, and most recently as Founder and President of EDC-Creations.
My experiences with Karibu Books have been greatly enhanced by Ella's knowledge
of the industry, overall professionalism, and her inviting, down-to-earth
demeanor. Since joining forces with EDC-Creations in early 2007 I've come to
expect, and have received no less than the same 5-star treatment that only an
Ella Curry environment can provide. Great things are on the immediate horizon
for EDC-Creations and I can personally say that I'm glad to be in their number!

EDC Website Design and Book Promotion
From the first time that I spoke with Ms. Curry to this present day I have been
IMPRESSED! I have not only been impressed with her professionalism but her
passion for what she does. I could tell from the first time that I spoke with
Ms. Curry that she loves what she does. That has come across in everything that
I have received from her. She is professional, courteous and respectful.
If she
says that she is going to do something she is going to do just that. In this day
and time when customer service is lacking in most companies it is great to see
that there is a company that prides itself on results, courtesy, passion, and a
desire to take care of its clients. Many companies could learn a lot about how
to run a company the RIGHT WAY from Ms. Curry and the EDC Creations family. She
has made me feel comfortable since we first talked and it is a pleasure to be
associated with Ms. Curry and the EDC Creations family. The dynamic 21st century way of
entrepreneurship is the movement that I have created and I am pleased to say
that Ms. Curry is an entrepreneur who is doing business her way and the 21st
century way.
